Blue Bell Foundation: Enhancing Student Scholarship

WILSON, N.C. — February 15, 2022 —Barton College is pleased to announce a $100,000 gift from the Blue Bell Foundation of Winston-Salem, NC, to add to their existing scholarship fund.

Blue Bell, established in 1904, built its reputation on denim work clothing. Many workers across the nation and even internationally – from farmers to miners to assembly-line workers – sought Blue Bell clothing for its high quality and endurance. Wilson served home to one of the company’s jean making plants for many years and became part of the VF Corporation in the 1980s.

The Blue Bell Endowed Scholarship was established at Barton College in 1986, as a result of the strong community relationship between both organizations.  The Blue Bell Foundation has been a continuous supporter of the College in addition to student scholarships by also supporting Barton College athletics and capital projects including the construction of Truist Stadium

“Barton College extends its sincere gratitude to the Blue Bell Foundation for its commitment to furthering our mission and enhancing student learning opportunities with their ongoing philanthropic support,” said Archer Bane, Executive Director of Institutional Advancement. “Partners with alumni, friends, businesses and foundations is paramount in supporting our students, faculty, staff, programs at the College.”

Since its inception, the scholarship has helped open doors to a college education for deserving and promising many young men and women from a broad spectrum of socioeconomic backgrounds from North Carolina.

Endowed scholarships are critical because they provide permanent funding for which students can count—year after year. A gift of an endowed scholarship enables a donor’s impact to last well into the future, and it enables Barton College to attract and retain generations of high-achieving and deserving students.
