Archer Bane

Executive Director of Institutional Advancement
Archer returned to Barton College in July of 2017 as the Director of Alumni Relations after spending time with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's athletic fundraising arm, The Rams Club. In August of 2018 he moved into the role of Director of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving and held that position until moving into his current position of Executive Director of Institutional Advancement in July of 2019. Archer is responsible for providing a coordinated, campus-wide approach to advancement including, development, annual giving, advancement services and alumni relations. He works closely with the president, senior staff and volunteer boards including the Board of Trustees to further the mission of Barton College.

Archer has degrees in Accounting and Sports management from Barton College, and was a member of the Men's Soccer Team, Honors Program, and Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity during his time on campus. He also has a Masters in Sport Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Brandi Orbin

Director of Special Events, Volunteers and Donor Relations
Brandi Orbin joined the team in August of 2019. She oversees all aspects of donor relations including special events on and off campus, the Advancement Office's comprehensive acknowledgement plan, Major gift stewardship and recognition efforts, Giving Society activities, and she serves as the official contact for inquiries regarding endowments to the College. Brandi also oversees the Alumni Association Board and is a point of contact for Alumni inquiries for any on campus activities.

Brandi's career in higher education spans 25 years. She has served in development, marketing communication and advancement roles over that time. She began her work experience in marketing communications for Meredith College which launched a career that has included tenure as director of foundation relations for Georgia Tech, director of advancement for the Center for the Environment at Catawba College, and associate director of development for the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at NC State. Brandi holds a BA in Communication from NC State University. She and her husband (Will) are proud parents of twins Ben and Regan and black labrador retriever Ellie Mae. Duane Grooms

Director of Development - Annual Giving and Corporate Partnerships
Duane Grooms joined the team in May of 2020. Duane's primary responsibility is cultivating and soliciting annual donors as well as overseeing all aspects of the annual giving program at the College. In addition to his annual giving duties, Duane manages the College's corporate partnership program with the primary goal of stewarding existing relationships and cultivating and soliciting new ones. Duane will also serve as the liaison to athletics for all athletic fundraising.

Grooms comes to Barton after almost 9 years as Assistant Athletics Director at the University of South Carolina. While there he was responsible for the daily management and personnel supervision of facilities services operations for the athletics department. He oversaw the facility readiness of all departmental facilities, totaling 2,800,000 square feet, and was the manager for all athletics facility renovation projects. This is his 3rd stop at Barton, serving as Director of Student Activities and Hamlin Student Center in the early 90’s and Director of Student Life, Director of Career Services and Director of the Barton Society in the early 2000’s.

Prior to his role at USC, Grooms has served in several administrative and director roles during his nearly forty-year career, with extensive experience in the areas of development, student life and facilities management. He has served as Major Gifts Officer at East Carolina University; Director of Student Activities/Berns Student Center at Methodist University; Director of Athletic Facilities and Events Management as well as the Assistant Director-University Union and Center Operations at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington; Assistant Director-Russell Student Union Operations at Georgia Southern University as well as Assistant Athletics Director with the Greenville Recreation and Parks Department.

A native of Jamesville, North Carolina, Grooms holds a MAEd in Athletics Administration and a BS degree in Recreation Administration from East Carolina University. He has held numerous professional memberships and has served on a multitude of committees during his career. Hi lives in Wilson with his dog Petey. Jessica Tyson

Director of Gifts and Information Management
Jessica joined the IA team in 2016 after tens years working in admissions and facilities at the College. Jessica's primary roles are to maintain the accuracy of our alumni and donor database, processes all donations, and provide updated financial and contact information for all development efforts. Jessica also works closely with the Donor Relations office as she plays an integral role in donor acknowledgements and special events.

Tom Maze

Assistant Vice President for Leadership Giving
Tom serves as Assistant Vice President for Leadership Giving. In this role, he builds relationships with alumni and philanthropic friends in an effort to enhance student learning opportunities through financial support. Tom also serves as the point of contact on campus for estate giving as well as foundation grants to the institution. He brings 20 years of development experience and leadership to Barton College.
