Leaving a Legacy: How Planned Giving Makes a Meaningful Difference at Barton College

Barton College has long been a cornerstone of academic excellence and personal development. Central to Barton’s mission is our commitment to providing programs and opportunities to encourage the intellectual, spiritual, social, and cultural development of our students and to challenge them for future leadership and service to their local and global communities. Our mission is significantly bolstered by the generosity of our donors, with planned giving as a particularly powerful form of support. Through planned giving, donors create lasting legacies that profoundly impact the lives of our students, opening doors to opportunities and ensuring the vitality of Barton College for future generations.

Planned giving encompasses a range of philanthropic strategies that enable donors to make significant contributions to Barton College, often through wills, trusts, and other estate plans. This forward-thinking approach not only provides financial stability for the College but also creates a lasting legacy that reflects the values and passions of our most dedicated supporters.

The impact of planned giving is seen most vividly in the lives of our students. Scholarships, facility enhancements, and program development funded through these gifts provide students with opportunities that might otherwise be beyond their reach.

Xavier McCreary, Class of 2024, was able to pursue a degree in Graphic Design, thanks to the Takashi & Yoshiko Fukuchi Memorial Scholarship. “Although I did not get to meet Dr. Fukuchi, his name and aura live on through loving stories from faculty and the scholarship fund I was blessed to receive. Being able to view his eclectic art collection gave me a great deal of inspiration as a graphic artist. He challenged previous students to think differently about the context of their studies, something I aspire to do as I continue my education. I thank him and his family for assisting me in furthering my academic career through the Fukuchi Memorial Scholarship.”

Donors who choose to include Barton in their estate plans become members of the esteemed E.C. Winstead Society, admirably named after Emerson Clarence “E.C.” Winstead, whose transformational gift in 2016 supported educational opportunities for students through financial aid with a first preference to students from North Carolina.

We invite you to consider the impact your planned gift can have on Barton College and our students, as well as your legacy. Whether you are an alumnus or a friend of the college, your contribution can help us continue to provide mission-driven educational experiences for many generations to come. Thank you for believing in the future of Barton College and investing in the leaders of tomorrow.
